Exploring Fold-Forming – $80

Skills and techniques taught: Hammering, texturing, folding, filing and patina application.
Description: Bring exciting depth to your pieces by learning to use fold forming techniques that take advantage of the inherent plastic properties of metal. Fold forming is a technique of metalworking whereby metal is folded, repeatedly forged and annealed, and unfolded, at which stage it has a dramatic new three-dimensional form. In this workshop we will be exploring the application of fold forming and use of other various tools to create dimension and surface texture to two projects. The first will be a pair of earrings and the second will be a German silver, tab set pendant. Liver of sulfur will be applied as a final finish.
You WILL complete this project in class.
Kit: $20.00 – This cost is in addition to the class fee and is paid directly to the instructor
Kit includes: (3) patterned, German silver ovals, (3) oval copper blanks, 3 sets of copper shapes for earrings, 3 sets of stainless steel ear wires, (3) 17″ (plus 2″ extender) necklaces, and jump rings.
Skills Required: No fear of a torch.
Instructor Will Bring: Hammers, tri-pods, pliers, dappers, pickle/pot, files, steel block, brass brush, disposable gloves, patina and torches
Materials You are Required to Bring: Your favorite flat nose pliers and hammer if you like.
