Description:

There are many ways to incorporate gemstones into jewelry pieces– prongs, bezels and claw settings.  A beautiful alternative to these traditional settings is to inlay gemstones into the jewelry. 

In this class students will work from a pre-cut sterling silver oval to which they will solder decorative patterned wire and a bezel, and add crushed stones to the bezel.   

There is nothing to bring as all materials, tools and equipment will be provided.  Students will choose from a variety of beautiful gemstones, including turquoise, chrysocolla, lapis, and peridot.  Arrive early to choose your stone.

Kit includes: Precut sterling silver oval, decorative wire, bezel wire, selection of crushed stones, sterling silver jump ring, waxed cotton necklace cord.

Skills and techniques taught: Powder coating, basic metal sawing and cutting, basic necklace and earring building.

Description:
Experience a new metal surface treatment in this crash course on powder coating for jewelry. Work with a variety of metals such as aluminum, bronze, copper, brass, titanium, and steel. Powder coating pigments are adhered through an electrostatic charge and then cured through baking. Students will cut and prep shapes for jewelry before coating with a number of color choices. The instructor will provide information on the process as well as tools and materials needed for powder coating. Time will be allotted for basic jewelry assembly.

All levels welcome.

Description:

“Color Explosion” is a very colorful bead embroidery bracelet using Ana Bronze focals, including skulls, faces/masks as options in class. Using bead embroidery stitching and some peyote creating a one of a kind bracelet with colorful components using Czech beads and seed beading. Other components will be included, such as Stiff felt, glue, canvas or leather bracelets and ultrasuede backing, along with a box clasp. A colorful instruction booklet will be included for your inspiration.

You will NOT complete this project in class.

Kit includes: All materials for the projects including focals, components, all seed beads, Stiff felt, glue, canvas or leather strap for bracelets  and ultrasuede backing and box clasp, a colorful instruction booklet. Skills and techniques taught: Learn how to use enamels and regular enamels. How to use the temperature of a kiln set to flow the enamels, mix different colors and make different effects to your piece. How to place your piece in the kiln and remove it from the kiln

Description:

Make a beautiful necklace pre enameled necklace made with Mason Stain, (black) with ready to use enameled on both sides of the copper. This is so you may start quickly to have time to concentrate on your piece. We will use beautiful enamel water color that is fine ground glass to fire in the kiln for an enamel, your very own original design. Make a design that you can follow step by step. It can be your original that will not be able to be reproduced. You will create an original! We will start with pre enameled neck piece, or a necklace. You can wear your design home and it can accessorize your favorite outfit. This will be a fun and relaxing class.

Kit includes:

Everything needed to have a completed piece to wear home. Copper Piece enameled on the front and back (counter Enamel) of the piece, Chain to finish your necklace to wear, 4 Jump rings to attach chain to copper backing and clasp, a clasp for closing the chain, use of enamel for your piece during class. Ideas for designs. Instructions for the class.

All tools and materials needed to complete your piece will be provided to share in class, like welding gloves to protect your hands and arms from the heat of the kiln, firing fork, trivets, rack, sifters, pliers and all enamels. Masks will be provided to prevent inhaling the enamel powders students will use and to protect from breathing in the dust.

For student safety, it is suggested to wear a natural fiber shirt with short sleeve, preferably cotton tee shirt. Avoid loose and flowing clothes. Tie back long hair, wear close toed shoes like tennis shoes.

Description:

As artists we try to achieve color, unusual textures and patterns in our jewelry designs. You will learn how to make a gorgeous pendant with a faux reticulation technique. The hills, valleys and swirls achieved with this process reminds me of a fresh lava flow. Students marvel at the gorgeous, almost instantaneous results they get after trying it. Students will learn how to use silver scraps to make amazing texture and patterns on a copper base, add fantastic flame painted colors to their pendants, and how to make a soldered sterling silver bail using a small butane torch.  

You WILL complete this project in class.

Description:
Create this whimsical bird with the look of an enameled piece without the use of a kiln! This amazing technique uses colored pencil and permanent ink to color a copper surface. In this workshop you will learn how to create this “birds of a feather” by preparing copper to accept hand-applied color for a permanent effect, and how to use metal stamps, fluid color and patina to design a beautiful pendant you can be proud of. Beginners welcome! No prior skills or experience is needed.

Students should bring 1-12 pack of Prsimacolor premiere colored pencils (in tin only); no other colored pencils will work, or share the  teacher’s colored pencils with the group.
